ORGANISMS- living things
Must possess ALL 9 of the following
characteristics
Living things “R-CHARGE2D”
(Not every organism has to reproduce,
but the species must)
ability to maintain internal conditions
separate from an outside environment.
Examples:
Body Temperature at 98.6 degrees,
sweating, shivering
Water levels in body
An adaptation is…
a characteristic that affects chances of survival
Can be advantageous or not
Inherited
Examples: Owls large eyes help to see at
night
Ex- A plant growing in a specific
direction due to a light stimulus
Doesn’t have to be MOVEMENT-
Example: Temperature turns
cold & dry (stimulus) and
trees loose leaves
(response)
Getting Bigger / Increasing material
“the capacity to do
work”
(and it takes work to
maintain the
organization of the
cell and the organism)
The gradual accumulation of adaptations
due to environmental stimuli.
(Organisms with more suitable adaptations
are more likely to survive and reproduce)
Cannot occur in an individual- only in
species over many generations!
Changes during the life of an
organism
Not just growing, but “maturing”
…Or is it???
How did you
know???
