Numbers and
Operations /Fractions
This morning we will look at the content
standards from Numbers and Operations
/Fractions. Our work today focuses on:
*Understanding decimal notation for fractions,
and compare decimal fractions.
*Linking these BIG IDEAS with the Math
Practice Standards
*Examining how Investigations lessons fully
support the Common Core State Standards for
4th grade
Are You Ready to Play
“Fill Two “
As you play:
• Identify the content standards
• Identify the mathematical practices
• Discuss strategies for differentiation.
• Predict and plan for possible misconceptions

Clothesline Activity
The following activity will have students use a number line to compare and order
decimals and fractions.
To complete this activity use the given materials to create a clothesline that illustrates
the correct order of the decimals and fractions.
Cut out your
fraction cards and
glue them onto the
index cards. Place
them on your
number line (yarn)
using the paper
clips and hole
puncher.

Measurement and
Data/Geometry
This afternoon we will look at the content
standards from Measurement and Data/Geometry.
Our work today focuses on:
*Representing and interpreting data and draw and
identify lines and angles, and classify shapes by
properties of their lines and angles.
*Linking these BIG IDEAS with the Math Practice
Standards
*Examining how Investigations lessons fully
support the Common Core State Standards for 4th
grade
What’s New?
Use the Common Core and Standard Course of Study to
classify the standards and objectives from Geometry
and Measurement into one of the following categories:
New
Same
Changed
Gone
These clusters are supporting
clusters. They support and enrich
the major clusters.
Butterfly Wings: Adding and
Subtracting Mixed Numbers
Session 2.7A
Common Core Standards: 4MD4
Discussion:
• What major cluster is being supported by
this lesson?
• How does Investigations use 4MD4 to
support this major cluster?
• What supplemental materials could be
used with this lesson?
