Nature Creates – We Refine
.
• A naturally occurring product from coniferous
forests which is extracted as a by-product of the
pulp manufacturing industry. The final refined
product contains modified tall oil fatty acids and
standardized amount of resin acids.
• We have develop this by-product into a specific
concentration of resin acids and tall oil fatty
acids which have never before been used in
animal feeds
• Potential
– To improve efficiency of meat production systems
– To reduce reliance on antibiotics
• Patent protected product and applications
Nature Creates – We Refine
Market Need
• Global meat production will need to double
by 2050 to cater for a rising population (FAO).
• Need for improved feed efficiency and
environmental sustainability
• As production systems intensify, so does the
pressure from pathogenic bacteria.
• Reliance on antibiotic solutions is
unsustainable. Demand for effective natural
solutions.
• The global feed additive market for natural
additives is currently €3bn and rising.
• The need of antibiotic free meat production
is consumer driven.

serious health threats” The Lancet 2013

antibiotic-resistant “superbug” bacteria in
USA” Reuters 19.12.2013

1. Naturally
• Rosin, containing resin acids, has been used in traditional
medicine in Finland for centuries
• The antimicrobial and antiprotozoal effects of resin acids are
proven by scientific trials (Ali et al. 2012, Sipponen A. 2013)
• We are the first to develop the resin acids into a form that
optimizes their efficacy in animal feeding (patents)

2 Active: ProgRes supports the health
and productivity of animals
• In trials Progres has:
• Prevented the growth of pathogenic Gram+
bacteria
–
Such as clostridium perfringens and streptococcus suis
• Reduced the development of necrotis enteritis
• Modified the composition of intestinal microflora
to beneficial direction
• Lead to decreased mortality, better health and
growth performance in broilers and turkeys

Schothorst Feed Research 2014
• 96 male broilers per treatment (6 *16 birds)
• Eimeria maxima challenge at day 9, Clostridium
perfringens challenge at day 14
• Progres additions 0, 1, 2 and 3 kg per ton
• The challenge caused a sub-clinical infection
without affecting mortality
