Monterey Bay…
…Is located right off the coast of
California. The sanctuary was established
in 1977. A marine sanctuary is almost like
a national forest, but instead of being on
land, it is in the water. Monterey Bay is
known as the Kelp Forest or Temperate
Ocean.

• Monterey Bay mostly have at the bottom
of the ocean is hard granite and sandy
floors and under water canyons..
• Every 3 to 7 years El Nino disrupts the
ocean atmosphere system in the pacific
ocean and it can cause current patterns
near the equator. Also water in the
currents feed Monterey Bay
People’s Affects
Lots of people are causing the
population of fish to die down, mainly
because of people fishing in Monterey
Bay. Lots of people are also
harvesting kelp. They are collecting the
kelp because there is an ingredient
called align. Align makes foods soft
and creamy. Align is found in pudding,
salad dressing, gravy, etc.
