Antibiotics
From a Medical Perspective

The Basics
Created with changing modern medicine
Useful in killing BACTERIA, not viruses
Prescribed for bacterial infections, not viruses (e.g. flu, colds,
coughs, sore throats)
Able to control infectious diseases
Antibiotic Resistance
Bacteria CAN become resistant to these drugs.
Antibiotic resistance occurs when medications are
taken unnecessarily.
When an illness persists, additional drugs may be
needed to kill the germ.
Since some bacteria refuse to die, super strains can be
bred by overuse/misuse of antibiotics.
Proper Use of Antibiotics
Students can take antibiotics prudently
by taking all doses of the medications
exactly as prescribed.
DO NOT STOP TAKING DRUGS EARLY,
EVEN IF YOU FEEL FINE!
