REVIEW FOR DISEASE TEST
CANCER AND TUMORS
Tumors
Benign- non-cancerous; does not invade
nearby tissue or spread to other parts of the
body the way cancer can.
Malignant- cancerous; are made up of cells
that grow out of control. Cells in these
tumors can invade nearby tissues and
spread to other parts of the body.

know who has had a benign tumor?”
VACCINES
Herd Immunity- When the majority of people in a
community are immunized against a contagious
disease, most members of the community are protected
against that disease because there is little opportunity
for an outbreak.
non-immunized school age children often protected
from vaccine-preventable diseases such as diphtheria,
measles, and polio because of herd immunity.
COMMUNICABLE V. NON-COMMUNICABLE
DISEASES
Communicable
A disease that can be transmitted
through direct contact or indirect
contact with an infected agent.
Is contagious
Non-Communicable
A medical condition or disease that is not
contagious.
Not contagious (cannot be spread from
one person to another)
Can get from contact with infected
animals
Can get from eating contaminated food
Cannot get from the environment (sun,
smoking, second-hand smoke, etc)

WAYS TO AVOID DISEASES
Communicable
Avoid being around people who are sick
Wash your hands before eating, after going to
the bathroom and before cooking anything
Stay home when sick- cover your mouth with
arm if you cough

Non-communicable
Avoid tobacco- tobacco can increase risk of
non-communicable diseases like cancer.
