in dim lighting
Crossed or misaligned eyes
Poor vision
Swollen tissue around the eye

Fundoscopic examination
Computed tomography scan
MRI
Blood tests
Genetic and/or DNA testing
Treatment
Individualized for each patient –
patients survival is primary goal
Enucleation
External Beam Radiation
Radioactive Plaques
Treatment (cont.)
Laser Therapy
Cryotherapy
Chemoreduction/Chemotherapy
New Clinical Trial Treatments
Case Study
Child diagnosed at 2 years of age with
Bilateral Retinoblastoma
Treated with Chemotherapy and
Radiation
Both eyes eventually had to be
enucleated
He developed unique adaptations
Implications
Early diagnosis is critical
If left untreated cancer can spread
Over 95% of children in US survive
and lead normal lives
Follow up appointments are important
to detect possible secondary cancers
