WHY SUPPORT RELAY FOR LIFE?
1 in every 3 Americans have already heard of Relay For Life. Last year, 93% of companies supported a charitable cause in order to
build deeper relationships with their customers. In turn, 69% of consumers purchased a particular brand because of its link to a
worthy cause (Cone Roper survey).
Last year the Fairport community held its first annual Relay for Life. Over 600 participants signed up and walked the track raising
$80,000.00 for the fight against cancer. The Fairport community was recognized in the American Cancer Society’s Eastern Division
(NY and NJ) as having the best new event with the most participants and most income generated! By supporting the Fairport
Relay for Life you and your organization can be a part of this awesome phenomenon.
WHY WE RELAY:
 Relay For Life is the largest fundraising event in the world! Since its inception in 1986, the event has raised more than $1
billion nationwide.
 Relay is a team building activity for corporate groups to rally around a common cause. It provides an opportunity for
anyone and everyone to participate in the fight against cancer in their community.
 Relay is an excellent networking opportunity where sponsors can build and nurture relationships with corporations,
government and healthcare institutions.
 Relay increases the awareness of cancer, raises money to support research, education, patient services and advocacy and
celebrates the lives of survivors and the passion of their caregivers.
 Relay is a celebration of survivorship and a time to remember loved ones. Relay For Life has been called a “huge,
compassionate community support group” and is, for many participants, a life-changing experience.

cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research,
education, advocacy and service.

WHAT IS RELAY FOR LIFE?
Relay For Life is a non-competitive event where teams of friends, neighbors, families and coworkers commit to keeping at least
one member walking around a track at all times – because cancer is a disease that never sleeps! Relay increases awareness of
cancer in the community and raises much needed funds to fight the disease.
We invite all cancer survivors in the community to be our guest for the opening ceremonies of Relay to CELEBRATE their victory
over cancer. For many, the experience of gathering together with other survivors is powerful and moving. We also encourage
survivors to invite their family and friends to join them during this celebration.
When the sun goes down, hundreds of luminaria (paper sacks filled
with sand and candles) light the way under the stars, and a moment of
silence falls during the Ceremony of Hope. This Ceremony of Hope is
one of the most special and moving events of the entire Relay.
Everyone gathers to REMEMBER those lost to cancer, support those
fighting cancer, and rejoice with those who have fought the disease
and won. Luminaria are available for a contribution to the American
Cancer Society.
In the morning, as the sun rises, participants celebrate that they’ve
made it through the night and pledge to FIGHT BACK against the
disease.
