ABSTRACT Cancer remains a mayor cause of death globally. An estimated 7.6
million people died of cancer in 2005 and 84 million people will die within the next
10 years if no preventive action is taken (WHO, 2006). But until now has not found
an anticancer drug that selectively kills cancer cells without harming normal cells.
This study aims to discuss the potential use of curcumin and Andrographolide
combination with targeted nanoparticle technology and ayurveda for cancer
treatment. Curcumin has been identified can inhibit cancer cell proliferation and
induce apoptosis of human breast cancer with resistance mechanisms of COX-2
(Zang et al., 1999; Mehta et al., 1997; Anggarwal et al., 2004). Andrographolide have
activity as an inhibitor of the enzyme DNA topoisomerase II is highly potent
(Sukardiman et al, 2005). Targeted drug delivery (TDD) is a system that delivers
targeted anticancer drugs on the course directly. TDD can be optimized, with
nanoparticles that can increase the anticancer effectiveness in interacting with the
biomolecules on the surface and inside the cell, the carrier agent such as chitosan
(polymeric nanoparticles) in coated / encapsulated with anticancer, and can be
formulated, controlled release injectable preparation. The Ayurvedic system of
medicine was well founded on the basic principles of nature and its elements after
a careful and thorough study of human physiology. The study is expected to provide
