NCHSAA REGULATIONS
•Rule books mailed to the AD
•May begin Practice---Feb. 13
•Date of first contest---Feb. 27
•State Championships---May 18 @ Wake Med

POINTS OF EMPHASIS
• Game Times during the playoffs: On lighted
fields--7:00PM unless mutually agree to play
at 6:00PM; anything earlier than that must be
approved by NCHSAA
– Saturday game times during playoffs are always
negotiable
– If one-way distance for visiting team is greater
than 100 miles, game time SHALL BE 6:00PM
NCHSAA Information
• Skill Development sessions – 1 less than a
team. Pages 127-129 of NCHSAA Handbook.
• Coaches coaching a team outside the sports
season but during the school year must abide
by the skill development #’s (1 less than a
team)
• Men’s Lacrosse – no more than 9
• Women’s Lacrosse – no more than 11
RULES & REMINDERS
• Note: Dead period begins July 30 through Sept. 1;
winter dead period is October 31-December 1.
• Coaching Requirement: All coaches must still attend a
required meeting with Athletic Director to view the
Eligibility power-point presentation prepared by
NCHSAA Staff
• Concussion Rule: Gfeller-Waller Law must be
observed;
– If a student receives head injury or suspected concussion,
he/she MUST have the return to play form signed by Dr.
licensed to practice medicine before returning to practice
and/or play; all forms on health and safety page of the
website
RULES & REMINDERS
• Sportsmanship: If student or coach is ejected or
DQ’ed, still must complete the Star Sportsmanship
course on-line before returning to competition in
addition to serving the contest penalty. Now a fee: if
player is ejected, school must pay cost of the fee.
Additionally, if a fighting ejection, head coach must
take the “Teaching and Modeling Behavior” NFHS
course; cost is $20; must be completed before coaching
next game.
• Middle School Students: Are not allowed to practice
and/or play against high school students during open
facility or skill development sessions during school year
NCHSAA BOARD APPROVED ITEMS
• Now a $250 fine for non-compliant uniform
• Coaches Education Requirement
– All non-faculty (non-teaching, certified personnel) and all newly hired coaches
(new to your LEA, and has not passed the course) must complete and pass the
NFHS “FUNDAMENTALS OF COACHING” certification course within sixty (60)
days of hire. This is for head coaches, assistant coaches, including volunteers.
– If currently a non-faculty coach, certification course must be completed prior
to first day of practice.
– Course is an online offering through the National Federation (NFHS). To access
and complete the course, go to nfhslearn.com . Cost of course is $35 and is a
one-time completion requirement to be nationally certified.
– NCHSAA Board of Directors has recommended 100% of coaching staff(s)
complete the “FUNDAMENTALS OF COACHING” certification in three (3) years:
Target date is August 1, 2015.

• NCHSAA Board action – in 2013-14 season, the
length of the season will be increased by one (1)
week.
