Content Design
• Text:
– Linear text
– Hypertext, frames, navigability aids
• Multimedia:
–

Animation, video
3D
Interaction, remote control, meetings

Page Design
• Cross-platform design:
– many platforms
– cell phone, handheld, notebook, desktop, high-end
workstation, Networked meeting rooms, 3D Viz
room
– various versions of browsers
– collect them all
– WYSIWYG
– he’s dead, Jim
4
Text
• Issue:
– imposes a strict, linear progression on the
reader, according to the author’s ideas of what
is best
5
Hypertext and Hypermedia
• What:
– non-linear structuring of information
– traversed in many different ways
– chunks of media
– e.g., text, graphic, movie, voice, sound, etc.
– links between chunks
– e.g., technical terms, hotspots
6
Hypertext and Hypermedia
• What are some problems or issues for
hypertext or hypermedia systems?
7
Hypertext and Hypermedia
• Some issues:
–
–

–
–

Objectives of the IIRO Project
•
One of the goals of this project is to
demonstrate that safe, effective, and
reliable monitoring and control of mine
operations can be performed over satellite
and terrestrial communication links
(including the Internet), using models
created from various sensors located in a
mine.

Goal of project ROSA
•
The goal of project ROSA
(Robotic Operation with Supervised
Autonomy) is to develop and
demonstrate that intelligent systems
technologies can provide remote
robotic equipment with local
intelligence capabilities for ground
control of space systems.

VR Tour: Tomb of Tutankhamum
The VR tour shows
visitors the Tomb as
they would
experience it today.
24
CMC 3-D Virtual Reality Theatre
Features:
• Seating for 20-25 visitors
• 3 m x 4.6 m (10’x15’) screen
• Electrohome projector
• SGI Onyx 2 Reality computer
• Passive polarizing glasses
• “VR Tour Guide” hosts
Digital Repatriation
A replica of Tutankhamun’s mask was scanned and
the 3-D model inserted into the tomb model.
