Celebration is vital to the writing process.
The most useful comments for any writer are those that will
influence later writing.
Sentence starters are a great way to ensure that students’
comments are appropriate and focused.
Teaching
Step 1: Login to the Writing the City Web site:
http://write.teachingmatters.org.
Step 2: View the class E-zine and discuss what aspects of
the writing are effective and what could be improved.
Step 3: Use “Sample Sentence Starters” to make effective
comments to writing.
Guided Practice
Go to the “8.8 Model Text.”
Locate an appropriate place to insert an effective comment.
Refer to “Sample Sentence Starters.”
Comment on work.
