Purpose of Training
•To familiarize staff new to the reservation with Native
American culture
•To introduce staff new to the disability field to resources for
information and assistance
•To teach about effective practices for serving Native
American families

What are course modules?
A course module is a group of many web pages on
a single broad topic.
COPT courses include on-site instruction, review
of web pages in the module, emailed or mailed
newsletters, and group activities in a
workshop setting with others working in the
field
COURSE MODULES : A really brief overview
Introduction to Disability - Information on
disability, disability services and providing
services in reservation communities
Special education - Individual Education
Plans, classroom modifications and social
issues during the school years
Vocational rehabilitation - Finding and
keeping a job, overcoming obstacles
Early childhood - Individual Family Service
Plans, developmental stimulation, infant and
toddler development
What’s in the modules?
Web pages, broken into areas of interest, e.g.,
Recruitment of families, Preventive Health
Links to web pages from other websites
Resources related to the topic on a web page from our
Virtual Library
A Commons Area that includes newsletter articles, tips
from staff members working on reservations, and virtual
field trips
Virtual Library: What is it?
On any web page where you see the
bookshelf icon, you have a link to the
Virtual Library with material related to
the topic on that page.
The Virtual Library is handouts,
booklets, even entire books,
included on your COPT CD
and the COPT website.
Commons Area: What is it?
On any web page where you see the
fireplace icon, you have a link to the
Commons Area with material related to
the topic on that page.
The Commons Area contains newsletter
articles, advice posted by staff members,
tribal members with disabilities and
families and virtual field trips of
interesting websites.
