Flash is commonly used to create
animation, advertisements, various webpage components, to integrate video into
web pages, and more recently, to develop
rich Internet applications and gaming.

Since its intro in 1996, Flash
technology has become a popular
method for adding animation and
interactivity to web pages.

Macromedia, who was purchased by
Adobe systems in 2005 reports that
by January 2002 more than 400
million browsers were able to view
Shockwave flash movies. That is
about 98% of all browsers on the web.
Why Use Flash?
There are limits to what can be
done with:
• - Animated GIF’s
• - Java applets
• - Javascript
Flash Vs. GIF’s
• - Can be used in some
animation, but does not support
interactivity
• - Limited to a 256 color palette
• - Flash loads much faster in a
browser than would a GIF of
equal quality.
