Transcript NMR - Gmu

Today
Introduction to NMR Spectroscopy
• The quiz (and all future quizzes) is a maximum of 50
points.
–
Notice that the quiz questions came directly from the assigned
reading.
• After the lecture on NMR:
– Work on the Assessment spectra problems for about 25 min.
(You may use your texts and notes.) Turn it in.
– Check into your assigned lab drawers. Make sure that all
equipment that is listed on the check-in sheet is present and
clean. If there is extra equipment, put it in the Hood. If you
need missing equipment, ask for it in the prep room.
For Next Week
• Note: I will post these PowerPoint notes after each
lab on my lab web page.
• Prepare for lecture on IR Spectroscopy. See the .ppt
link on my web page – please print slides.
• Print the Spectroscopy Problem Set from the 318
web page. Parts will be due next week (see Due Date
slide).
• Read the Manual on “Keeping a Laboratory Notebook”.
Be sure to follow the directions for the preparation
of next week’s lab experiment in your notebook.
For Next Week
• You can use your lab notebook for quizzes. The notes
you use for the quiz and the preparation for the
experiment should be separated from each other
because you will be turning in a copy of your
experiment preparation but not your quiz notes.
• The quiz next week will be a “guided” spectra
interpretation that resembles the worksheet you will
see today, as well as preparation for “Bromination”.
