How can you find what you want?
Search engines are web pages
that allow you to search the rest of
the internet.

Two popular search engines are
Google and Bing.
Type the information you want to
find into the ‘search bar’.
Then press ‘return’ or click on the
button at the end of the search bar.

pages of search results for you.
Each result is a web page that
contains the words you searched for.
Click on the links until you find a web
page with what you’re looking for.

Use the right search terms to find
exactly what you want.
‘Turkey’ will bring up every web page
containing this word.
‘Beach holidays Turkey’ or ‘Turkey
recipes Christmas’ are much better!

search results.
After you enter your search terms,
click on what you want to explore,
such as ‘images’.

Your web browser can store the web
addresses of useful web pages. These
are called ‘bookmarks’.
Bookmarks mean you don't have to
search the web every time.
Use the ‘Bookmarks’ menu at the top of
your web browser, or press the ‘CTRL’
and ‘D’ keys at the same time.

button or link.

you’ve done a basics search.

results don't show pages that
include some words
So to find pages that include
‘mammals’ but NOT ‘carnivores’.
Enter ‘mammals’ into the ‘search
for’ bar at the top, and
‘carnivores’ into this bar.

this, add words and symbols
called ‘Boolean operators’.

OR lets you search for web
pages containing one or both:
