Miss Kane’s Weekly Kindergarten Newsletter
January 11, 2015
What are we learning this week?
Reading:
•I can solve the last page by spending extra time to use the picture
and think about what the story is about.
•I can make my book sound better by rereading it again and again.
•I can talk about what my book is all about by thinking about what is
the same.
•I can talk about what my book is all about by sharing the title, telling
about the pattern, and saying “This book is all about…”
Writing:
•I can be an author and write my own pattern book. Our book will be
8 pages and will follow a pattern similar to one of the sight word
books that was previously read!
Fundations (Word Work):
• I can segment phonemes (sound) and blend them together to
form a CVC word (ex. mad) or a non-sense CVC word (ex. zat).
• I can read and write CVC words and non-sense CVC words.
• Uppercase letter formation: Qu, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z
Math:
•I can read and display numbers on a calculator.
•I can identify and write two digit numbers.
•I can use different objects (string, rubberbands, etc.) to create
shapes then can compare and contrast shapes using math
vocabulary (corners, edges, etc.).
•I will use a number line to subtract.
Social Studies (new unit):
• I can identify significant American holidays, the months the occur
in, and their symbols

Sight Words of the Week

John Oblack is our Star of the Week
this week. His favorite animal is a
zebra, favorite color is blue, favorite
food is hot dogs, and favorite place to
visit is Nantucket. He loves swimming
and when he grows up, he wants to
be an inventor and a snowboarded. If
he had one wish, he’d wish for Moby!
We can’t wait to learn more about
John this week!
