BioMed – What is it and who is it for
• A collection of medical, dental and veterinary
images

• Images can be used in online courses, Web
resources, handouts and numerous other ways

BioMed provenance
• Images were originally on laser disc
• Size of collection was 22,000 images
• BioMed was launched as Web site in 1997
• Basis of image use = non-profit education only

New phase of development
• September 2002 JISC funded to expand the
current service
• Allow users to upload their own images
