A granite batholith, is a large granitic
body made up of multiple intrusions
of igneous rock. Enchanted Rock, the
topographic feature, is located near
the southeast margin of the
Enchanted Rock batholith [and is
marked with a star].
The white lines within the red granite
body indicate the orientation of a flow
foliation defined primarily by elongate
potassium feldspar crystals. The
black lines around the body are the
traces of large folds in the
surrounding rock.
Multiple intrusions? Yes, more than
one type of granite makes up the
Enchanted Rock Batholith.
