The term genetic engineering was first
used was in a book by Jack Williamson.

Genetic engineering has been around
since historic times, though not many
people know it.

The first form of genetic engineering was
breeding.

In 1953, Watson and Crick discovered
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), making
genetic engineering possible.

Gene therapy is used to help correct or
replace genes and fight diseases

Gene therapy has been used to cure
autoimmune disease and heart diseases.
Gene of Interest is Isolated.
Transfer vector is inserted into the gene.
The vector is transferred into the organism that is
to be modified.
The cells of an organism are transformed.
Genetically modified organisms (GMO) are
selected and separated from those that could
not be modified.

One of the first things that genetic
engineering created was Human insulin
New medicines are created by cloning
genes
 The first medicine created by genetic
engineering was Human insulin.
 Genetic engineering improved vaccines,
turning them into shots.


Ian Wilmut, used a technique to clone
animals. Creating a sheep named Dolly.

Scientists have learned that genes are
linked to memory and can greatly
improve learning and memorization.

Genetic engineering is used today, to
manipulate an organism’s genome.
