Risk Management
Risk management considers the potential and
perceived risk involved in student events and
programs.
It includes monitoring organization activities and
taking both proactive action and corrective
steps to minimize accidental injury and/or loss.
Types of Risk
Risk is any issue that impacts an organization’s
ability to meet its goals and objectives;
Types of RISK: financial, physical, reputational,
environmental, etc.
Risk Management for CSI
When planning social events, initiation
ceremonies and workshops make sure the event
is planned and monitored with risk management
in mind.
Monitor attendees and report to a chapter
officer if you feel they are a possible risk to
themselves or other attendees, or if there is a
compliance issue.
Alcohol & Drugs
POLICY STATEMEN: The University of Texas San
Antonio (UTSA) is committed to having a campus that is
free of the illegal or abusive use of drugs and alcohol.
The University recognizes that the illegal and/or
abusive use of drugs or alcohol by members of the
University community can prevent the University from
meeting its commitments and accomplishing its
missions. Further such use jeopardizes the safety and
welfare of the individual, fellow employees and the
University community.
Alcohol and Drugs
INTOXICATION:
Not having normal use of mental or physical
faculties by reason of the introduction of Alcohol;
controlled substance; or combination.
Having a BAC of 0.08 or more.
Know your limit
Approximate Blood Alcohol Percentage In One Hour for
140 lb. Woman: 1 drink- 0.03 (possibly); 2 drinks- 0.07
(impaired); 3 drinks- 0.11 (legally intoxicated)
180 lb. Man:1 drink- .02 (possibly), 2 drinks- .04 (impaired);
3- 0.6 (impaired); 4drinks- 0.08 (legally intoxicated)

Policy on Tobacco Use
The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA)
recognizes its social responsibility to promote the
health, well- being, and safety of UTSA students,
faculty, staff, and visitors. For this reason, UTSA will
become a tobacco- and smoke-free campus effective
June 1, 2014, at which time, smoking and the use of
tobacco or Tobacco Products will be prohibited in and
on all University-Owned and Leased Property
Hazing
The term “hazing” means any intentional, knowing,
or reckless act, occurring on or off the campus of
an educational institution, by one person alone or
acting with others, directed against a student, that
endangers the mental or physical health or safety
of a student for the purpose of pledging, being
initiated into, affiliating with, holding office in, or
maintaining membership in an organization.
Prohibition of Hazing
Hazing in state educational institutions is
prohibited by both state law (Sections 51.936 &
37.151 et seq., Texas Education Code) and by the
Rules and Regulations of The Board of Regents of
The University of Texas System, Series: 50101,
Section 2.8).

Sexual Abuse & Harassment
Sexual Abuse:
is the forcing of undesired sexual acts by one person upon
another. Does not exist in Texas law.
Sexual Assault:
sexual assault is any unwanted, non-consensual sexual contact
against any individual by another.

Sexual Abuse and Harassment
What is Harassment?
In the legal sense, it is intentional behaviour which is found
threatening or disturbing. Sexual harassment refers to
persistent and unwanted sexual advances, typically in the
workplace, where the consequences of refusing are
potentially very disadvantageous to the victim.
Stalking
How do I Know if I'm Being Stalked?
The stalker may, on more than one occasion:
Follow the victim and/or victim's family or household members, or
vandalize the victim's property, or
inflict damage to property--perhaps by vandalizing the car, harming
a pet or breaking windows at the victim's home, or
make threatening calls or send threatening mail, or
drive by or park near the victim's home, office, and other places
familiar to the victim.

illegal knife, club, or prohibited weapon listed in Section
46.05(a):

- When is the bomb going to explode?
– Where is it right now?
– What does it look like?
– What kind of bomb is it?

– What is your name?
Travel
Safety First!!!
Be aware of weather conditions/ Comply with traffic laws
No texting and driving
Have a co-pilot in charge of navigation, radio, A/C, phone calls, etc.
Be aware of vehicle condition
Do NOT transport, consume or possess alcohol or illegal
substances
