• 10,000 opiate/crack users
• 48,000 Cannabis users
• Significant number of users of:
Powder Cocaine
Ecstasy
Amyl nitrate
Amphetamine
Methedrone
ketamine
Alcohol misuse in Birmingham
• 117,000 hazardous drinkers
• 39,000 harmful drinkers
• 22,000 dependent drinkers
• 25% of men and 17% of women in the city are drinking
above safe limits.
Current Services
• 28 separate organisations providing treatment
• More drug services than alcohol
• Based on a substitute prescribing approach for drug misuse
• Not fully recovery focused.
• Person centred - not family focused.
• Does not effectively respond to Women, BME and LGBT groups.

• A single system – easy to access and move through
