• Can cause serious injury to inner ear
and kidney
• Narrow spectrum antibiotic
• Microbial resistance
• Use: aerobic gram-negative bacilli
• Adverse effects
– Nephrotoxicity
– Ototoxicity
– Hypersensitivity reactions
– Neuromuscular blockade
– Drug interactions
