Produced by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, the
MEDLINE database is widely recognized as the premier
source for bibliographic and abstract coverage of
biomedical literature.
MEDLINE encompasses information from Index Medicus,
Index to Dental Literature, and International Nursing Index,
as well as other sources of coverage in the areas of allied
health, biological and physical sciences, humanities and
information science as they relate to medicine and health
care, communication disorders, population biology, and
reproductive biology.

The Ovid MEDLINE database contains bibliographic
citations and author abstracts from more than 4,600
biomedical journals published in the United States
and in 70 other countries. The database contains well
over 12 million citations dating back to the mid1960's, including more than 130,000 populationrelated journal citations (unique to the former
POPLINE® database) that were added to MEDLINE
in October of 2002. Although coverage is worldwide,
most records are derived from English-language
sources or have English abstracts. Abstracts are
included for more than 75% of the records.

CINAHL (=Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied
Health)

CINAHL database provides authoritative coverage of the
literature related to nursing and allied health. Virtually all
English-language publications are indexed along with the
publications of the American Nurses Association and the
National League for Nursing. Primary journals are indexed
from the following allied health fields:

Selected journals are also indexed in the areas of consumer
health, biomedicine, and health sciences librarianship.
In total, more than 1600 journals are regularly indexed;
online abstracts are available for more than 1500 of these
titles. There are more than 18,000 records with full text
now included. The database also provides access to
healthcare books, nursing dissertations, selected conference
proceedings, standards of professional practice, educational
software and audiovisual materials in nursing
CINAHL
 More
than 11,000 CINAHL subject headings
provide specific access to CINAHL citations.
Many CINAHL headings are adopted from the
National Library of Medicine’s Medical Subject
Headings. CINAHL supplements these headings
with terms designed specifically for nursing and
allied health

Cochrance Library

The Cochrane Library contains high-quality,
independent evidence to inform healthcare
decision-making. It includes reliable evidence
from Cochrane and other systematic reviews,
clinical trials, and more. Cochrane reviews
bring you the combined results of the world’s
best medical research studies, and are
recognised as the gold standard in evidencebased healthcare.
Cochrance Library

The Cochrane Collaboration is an international nonprofit and independent organisation, dedicated to
making up-to-date, accurate information about the
effects of healthcare readily available worldwide. It
produces and disseminates systematic reviews of
healthcare interventions and promotes the search for
evidence in the form of clinical trials and other
studies of interventions. The Cochrane Collaboration
was founded in 1993 and named for the British
epidemiologist, Archie Cochrane..
Cochrance Library

The major product of the Collaboration is the
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews which is
published quarterly as part of The Cochrane Library.
 Those who prepare the reviews are mostly health care
professionals who volunteer to work in one of the
many Collaborative Review Groups, with editorial
teams overseeing the preparation and maintenance of
the reviews, as well as application of the rigorous
quality standards for which Cochrane Reviews have
become known.
