What is a POI?
• A Point of Interest (POI) is any feature or service
that people wish to visit or know the location of,
and is of value to the community particularly with
respect to wayfinding, vehicle routing or dispatch.
• A POI must contain: - Name
- Location
- Address
Application of POIs
– how are they used
• Mapping Products – SSD, Tourist Maps,
Atlases
• Emergency Dispatch
• GIS – ie Property reports, insurance
• Asset Management
• Location-based services
• Navigation/vehicle routing Services

– A strategy for state-wide POI data management and
dissemination
– Understanding agency business needs and associated

– Need for suitable funding model/s to build the
fundamental land information data source
