Statewide Users Benefited from 2003
Improvements in the Interactive Mapper
In 1995
WVDEP
pioneered
WWW-based

Estimated power and
frequent users at the
beginning of 2003 was ~
65.
During the year we
added about 65
occasional and new
users.
Projected increase in
users in 2004 is
expected to be ~ 50.
Accomplishment 2: ArcObjects
Customized Applications Development
Fielded WVDEP’s first, custom built, enterprise spatial application
for the Division of Mining & Reclamation (DMR) in 2003.
Majority of new 2003 GIS users were DMR permitting staff
Trained ~ 60 people to use DMR’s new application
Currently developing custom apps for Offices of Abandoned Mine
Lands & Reclamation and Special Reclamation.
Increased TAGIS’ Spatial Applications Development Group from 1
to 2 people doing full time spatial development work in early ‘04.
Accomplishment 3: IFSAR High Resolution
Elevation Data Acquisition
30 meter resolution DEM produced
from data collected in the 1970s
(part of Williams Mountain Quad)
1.25 meter resolution Orthorectified
Radar Imagery (ORI) produced
from X-band radar data collected
in September 2003 by InterMAP

SAN greatly
improves both
quantity of data we
can store and the
speed at which we
can serve data to
end users.
Goal 2: Airborne Imaging of Active Mining
and Abandoned Mine Lands
