VOCABULARY TO KNOW
• Natural increase
• The rate of natural increase (RNI) is the crude birth rate minus
the crude death rate of a population.
• Doubling time
• The period of time required for a quantity to double in size or
value
• Literacy rate
• Proportion of the population over age fifteen that can read
and write
• GNP
• The total value of goods produced and services provided by a
country during one year, equal to the gross domestic product
plus the net income from foreign investments

• GDP
• The total value of goods produced and services provided in a country
during one year
• Per-Capita
• For each person; in relation to people taken individually
• Standard of living
• The degree of wealth and material comfort available to a person or
community
• Human development index
• Composite statistic used to rank countries by level of "human
development"
• Purchase power of parity
• An economic theory that estimates the amount of adjustment
needed on the exchange rate between countries in order for the
exchange to be equivalent to each currency's purchasing power.
