Extension (Chinese concept) is• 1949: -to help rural families help
themselves by applying science, to the
daily routines of farming, homemaking,
and family and community living
• 2006: -the process of enabling change in
individuals, communities and industries
involved in the primary industry sector and
in natural resource management
What is Agriculture Extension?
Agriculture Extension is the application of
scientific research and new knowledge to
agricultural practices through farmer
education
Extension now encompasses a
communication and learning activities
organized for rural people by educators

increase our GDP/GNP

By capacity building of willing extension
workers

By developing effective connectivity with
field professionals within country and
abroad
Suggestions
• Government Dept----- Universities link
– Existing Government farms/agriculture/
veterinary/ medical hospitals can serve as
nucleus for the extension
– Local professionals with volunteer feeling can
be engaged
– University use them as out-reach center for
services guidelines and training
Short term Extension
• Projects to extend professional support to
model farmers who help themselves
– Village supporting workshops comprising
volunteer professionals
– Connecting farmers with the quality inputs &
services
– Sms based market information & linkage
– Volunteer student- farmer linkage

A few basic issues of small farmer
• Social
– Inadequate clean water
– Children schooling (science syllabus)
– Lack of basic knowledge on quality natural
food
• Animal
– Feed and fodder needs and preservation
– Poor housing (no shade & water)
– Vaccination sourcing and schedule
– Marketing animals & their products
Public Awareness
• Enhancing the local consumption of quality
natural foods
• Guiding public by using national media
• Providing food lab systems for the
population
• Working on children’s eating habits
