INTRODUCTION
RESULTS
• Whether you are a current student, recent grad, or
employed – using LinkedIn effectively will improve your
job prospects and help BRAND yourself!
• Beyond a resume system, the power emerges from data
mining your info and building connections
• LinkedIn allows you to connect to IT professionals, build
networks, follow brands, companies and groups, and
display references
• We have helped to grow the School group by 200 students
and the College group by 400+ students
• We have shown students how to job hunt using LinkedIn
and how to brand themselves as leaders
• We have created and we maintain the STARS LinkedIn
group (now at 96 members)

CREATE YOUR PROFILE
DEVELOP YOUR NETWORK
GET INDUSTRY NEWS
• Your profile dictates what data mining
occurs and what suggestions LinkedIn
algorithms provide to you
• Using a branded profile makes it easier for
people to find you
• Your profile can include recommendations
• Business cards are “old school” –
information changes and people move on
• Use LinkedIn to connect to people you meet
and STAY CONNECTED!
• You must manage your network, don’t just
collect connections
CONNECT THROUGH GROUPS
• Follow companies or brands
• Follow categories like “Leadership” or
“Careers” to get industry specific news
• You can get updates of changes at potential
employers or track news that employers
push out
• There are thousands of groups especially
alumni groups for your school/university
• Use groups to establish yourself as an expert
in a field or to ask questions
• Groups can help with job search by focusing
on your location or industry choices
