National Economic Thoughts
• The economy has lost momentum – but should avoid a
“double dip”
– Accelerated growth first half of the year. Slow growth
last half of year
– Consumer is saving – long term a good thing
– Business also cautious - cost containment – not adding
workers
• Slow recovery

I always start with employment in the state:
People working = income
- state income taxes
- sales tax
Sales/Income => 70% of state’s general fund

Develop and communicate a clear strategic institutional vision for the startup option of commercializing technology
Evaluate the organizational structure and ensure the resulting infrastructure
supports the articulated university strategic goals
Actively market existing policies, procedures and resources that support and

procedures, and resources to encourage faculty to engage in entrepreneurial
