Advertising is the science of selling products to
people. Advertisers try to persuade their target
audience to purchase products.
How does it work?
They do this by making people feel like their
lives will be better if they buy their products.

according to the ad?

• A slogan is a repeated catchphrase associated
with a product.

1. Do they use buzz words to appeal to our

contradicted? (the best built cars in the world).
5. Does it suggest that your life will be better
without the product?

• Bring in any advertisement from a newspaper
or magazine.
• Identify its slogan and caption.
• Say whether you think it is effective.

• Visuals are the images we see in the
advertisement. These can be photographs,
colours, pictures or symbols.

Good visuals:
Show us the product
Use a logo so we remember the brand
Make the product seem glamorous
Associate the product with someone famous – this
is called endorsement
