An Equal Potential Clamp is a device than
equalises two different potentials .

When a voltage is applied across the terminals in
excess of 70 volts the gas fires . When this happens it
effectively creates a short circuit across the
terminals to create a “HARD BOND”
[resistance <0.025 ohms].
This bond will continue until the voltage reduces
below 70 volts.

•Wherever a need exists to clamp 2 separate electrical
earthing systems together during fault conditions ONLY.
•Where-ever protection is necessary on ELV equipment
against very high sustained surges and overvoltage
conditions.

Operational conditions need these 2 systems be separated.
However for safety reasons these separate systems should be
bonded together.
Possible dangerous touch potentials exist.
Damage to equipment that could cause a disaster.
Areas may have high voltages present that can damage
ELV equipment.
•Conductors attached to these circuits may be exposed
to surge voltages and currents during fault conditions.
•In areas of high vulnerability, it may be advisable to
ensure the fault current has a predetermined path.
