V Series Focus Areas – Top 3 Game Changers
There is a full powerpoint deck of the various ways Galaxy V Series
addresses the previous slides customer feedback more broadly. This slide
deck focuses on the top 3 benefits of the Galaxy V series
- Econversion – Up to 99% efficiency with Class 1 Voltage
regulation, 70% less losses than the best competitive units saving
$60-100k per 10 years per 200kVA of UPS capacity
- 4 level Inverter - in double conversion mode far superior low load
efficiency and better efficiency across the full load range, smaller
filters, improved reliability and overall life of the UPS
- Lithium Ion Battery - options to improve battery life and save both
space and weight

Double Conversion mode
• Load is powered through PFC and Inverter
• Conditioned output voltage by inverter
• Conditioned input current by PFC
• Grid and load is coupled through DC bus
• Compliance with Class 1 Voltage regulation
• Efficiency is up to 96%
ECO mode
• Load is powered through Bypass by unconditioned grid
• Break in output Voltage during transfer to Battery
• No pf and Harmonics correction
• No upstream short circuit handling
•No compliance with Class 1 Voltage regulation
• Efficiency is up to 99%
Econversion is about having the best of both modes

4 Level Inverter – Harsh Voltage Environment
• Input voltage range is +20/-25% or 320V to 498V
• Extreme voltage range 250 V – 600V
Voltage sags & swells:
Galaxy VM also operates on extreme distorted
grid voltage (≈20% THD)
•Benefits
• Immunity against poor input Power Quality
• Suitable for Industrial Environments
• Extended lifespan of Batteries
• No need of adaptation transformer

Storage: Why Lithium-Ion?
10X
Key question: is there some technology that would be
more OPTIMAL than VRLA
(esp. in the 1-10min backup time range)?

Galaxy V series Power Topology – Reliability by design
A second but very important advantage by reduced IGBT voltage stress is that it practically eliminates
all known (over)voltage-related IGBT failures caused by:
• Switching transients
• Radiation impact (SEB : Single Event Burnout)
• Bus over-voltages from grid voltage swells etc.
This increased design margin = increased reliability.
Probability of
Failure
Example of IGBT failure rate voltage stress dependency:
75% voltage stress
on a 600V device:
3 level inverter
50% voltage stress on
a 600V device:
4 level inverter
