Calo commissioning meeting – CERN 20th January 2008

(1) VFE+CB status and plans
• Tests status (C-side):
Control links tested.
BER tests done: phase between VFE and FE measured.
Offset tests on all VFEs. Fine measurements for LED tests ongoing.
Maraton channel 0 “repaired”
Detector VFEs problems solved
PVSS SPD SW operative
DSS alarms:
- Cooling problems: some alarms are internal and we do not know if problem
- From other parts of the detector (online super-crash on 14Feb08)
PVSS instability:
- Agilent 150V source for HV seems to act as PVSS but the status is “error”
LEDs are always ON. We also depend on ECAL. Is it possible to find a
procedure in order not to disturb ECAL?
Maraton problem has important impact over schedule

(1) VFE+CB status and plans
• Week 8 (this week):
– Tests on A-side started but no cooling on detector (only A-side)
– Start LED tests (first data already taken)
– Send Maratons to Wiener
• Week 9 (next week):
– When will Maraton power supplies be received? Which should be the
best approach?
– Continue with C or A-side tests
• Week 10 (Global Commissioning):
– Test A-side (VFE control, BER, offsets, and LEDs)
– Access?
• Week 11:
– SPD A-side detector access

(2) Maraton ch0 problem repair
• Problem description:
– The problem; under some load conditions CH0 of the PS/SPD VFE
power Supply switches off.
– It also presents some strange voltage measurement when it's off:

(2) Maraton ch0 problem repair
• Problem analysis:
– Help from Niko, Paul and others
– Load, connection, power
consumption, RCM SW... everything
seemed correct.
– Behaviour: channel 0 changed the
off voltage when we switch on other
channels =>it had not well
connected the sense jumper.
– NO CHANNEL HAD THE SENSE
JUMPER
• Coclusions:
– The power supplies are OK.
– We have to add the sense jumper.

(2) Maraton ch0 problem repair
• Access to jumpers:
– Jumpers should be placed between
two planes: Difficult access.
– It's impossible to access from the
back because of the cabling.
– From the front, there's the power
supply and the first circuit of the
patch pannel, but it's the only way...
The pins for the jumpers are on the
other side.

(2) Maraton ch0 problem repair
• Bad cabling problems
on A-side:
– A DCS cable just
crossing in front of
the Maraton PSU
without any spare
cable for placing it
correctly.
• Cooling not connected
(now is OK).

(2) Maraton ch0 problem repair
• Results:
– After placing the jumpers all the channels seem to work OK but AN
ADJUSTMENT IS NEEDED.
– Cooling is available now on C-side but not on A-side.
– Does this affect all the other Maratons with no remote sensing?
