MP3 status week 31
N. Catalan Lasheras
MP3: August 4th 2010
Monday 3th August
• Beam dump triggered by QPS without any clear reason
• The trip was caused by a circuit breaker spontaneous
opening in the crate controlling 18L3 detector.
Intervention required
NCL – MP3 4th August 2010
Sunday 1st August
• Beam dump caused by RB.A56 trip due to
a water fault in the converter
• Fuse in the converted broken
– Changed by EPC
• QPS EE switch A1 opened. Probably a
false flag.
– Fault cleared after reopening the switches
NCL – MP3 4th August 2010
Saturday 31 July
• Beam dump due to RQTD, RQTF trips
after re-enabling the tune feedback at
flat-top
• Happened several times. Not really a
circuit fault
NCL – MP3 4th August 2010
Tuesday 27 July
• RCBXH1.R2 U_res signal with a significant
offset tripped during pre-cycle
• Required an access at 02:00 to be reset from
the tunnel
NCL – MP3 4th August 2010
Tuesday 26th July
• Two beam dumps triggered by IPQs involving
heater discharges
– RQ9.R2 at 08:59:28
– RQ6.R1 at 13:39:36
• Both discharged were ok but the reasons for
the discharge are still unknown.
NCL – MP3 4th August 2010
Monday 26th July
• Access granted with current in the main
circuits
NCL – MP3 4th August 2010
IPQs bus-bar resistance measurements
• Measurement of bus-bar resistance for the 6kA
circuits
– Reference values for time evolution and
nQPS upgrade
• Already 14 magnets measured in the dispersion
suppressor
– All values around 5 nOhms.
– Measurements require special equipment
displaced and connected during the
technical stops.
– Reduced hardware commissioning required
NCL – MP3 4th August 2010
Q10-Q9 sensitivity (to storms)
• Special configuration applied to these magnets
to measure higher range voltage
– Poor resolution on the low voltage range
– High sensitivity to noise of the triggering
signal
• Restoring he nominal settings will imply
removing two resistors for each card.
– MP3 recommended to test in the lab and
implement 1-2 examples during the next
technical stop.
NCL – MP3 4th August 2010
New support mode from MP3
• Two persons on call for LHC operation
1. 7:00 to 19:00 on weekdays
2. 19:00 to 7:00 on weekdays and 24/24 on
weekends
• Assistance to the 8:30 and 9:00 meetings
• Close follow-up of the LHC operation
(similar to the machine supervisors)
• Shifts (afternoon and night) will be
organized after technical stops
x162266
NCL – MP3 4th August 2010
New support mode from MP3
• Hardware procedures and test plan for
next shutdown under revision
• New tools on preparation
– New interlocks that may lock the circuits
after automatic analysis of the data
• Same commitment of the MP3 members
but resource optimization
• Already in this mode for the last week
