Academic
 The core curriculum incorporates 31 courses
equally balanced between the arts and sciences.
It provides the foundation for the academic
program and the broad knowledge necessary for
achieving success as a commissioned Army
officer. The core curriculum also provides an
opportunity for specialization.
 There are currently 22 optional majors and 25
fields of study. They cover virtually all of the
liberal arts, science and engineering disciplines
one would expect to find in highly selective
colleges.

“A leader leads by example not force.” Sun Tzu

Military
 The Corps of Cadets is organized as a "brigade" under
the command of a Commandant of Cadets. The
commandant is a brigadier general in the U.S. Army.
 There is both an officer and a cadet "chain of
command," providing many opportunities to practice and
develop personal leadership skills

Physical
11
Physical
 Through athletics, every cadet competes and is
challenged at the highest level of physical ability. It is an
opportunity to develop self-confidence and self-discipline,
a sense of fair play, team spirit, and the capacity to think
and act under stress. Thus, athletics serve the larger
mission and purpose of the Military Academy.
“In general, any form of exercise, if pursued continuously, will
help train us in perseverance.”
Mao Tze Tung

Moral
Ethical
13
Moral - Ethical
 Moral-ethical development is central to the West Point
experience. It is integral to the academic program and
imbedded throughout the military and physical programs.
 The Honor Code -- "A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal,
or tolerate those who do"—sets the minimum standard
for integrity, but the Military Academy seeks to inspire
adherence to the spirit of the code. We want to develop
leaders of character, men and women who revere
honesty, pursue justice and practice respect for others
and their property. Cadets are guided by the timeless
creed "Duty, Honor, Country" with "Respect" and
"Integrity" as the central fundamental values.
“He will win whose army is animated by the same spirit
throughout all its ranks.”
Sun Tzu

Questions and Personal
Reflections
I, personally, find that for me to achieve
the greatest recall on any subject, it is
imperative that I both record my thoughts
in writing--- and that I discuss these
thoughts with those whom I respect.
To this end, please open your workbooks
and answer the questions provided.
