A Thing Of Beauty

The poem ‘A thing of beauty’ is an extract
from his long poem Endymion; a poetic
romance. This poem is based on a Greek
legend, in which Endymion, a beautiful
young shepherd and poet who lived on
mount latmos, had a vision of Cynthia, the
moon goddess. The enchanted youth
resolved to seek her out and so
wandered away through the forest and
down under the sea.
This poem ‘A thing of beauty’ is an
extract from Keats poem Endymion. In
this poem John Keats depicts that a thing
of beauty is a joy forever, a joy even in the
mirth of diseases, sufferings and
disappointments of life. This joy of beauty
comes to a men through his senses…
…He is excited by the beauty of the
external world and therefore have
wonderful and delightful experiences. The
trees, flowers, streams, mountains, sun and
moon are all the objects of beauty and
they provide joy for ever.

The imprint it leaves on our mind is indelible.

But will keep a bower quiet for us
The poet feels that a thing of beauty can never
fade into nothingness.

dreams.

experiences.

And a sleep full of sweet dreams, and
health, and quiet breathing
The joy beauty gives us is akin to the joy of
a blissful sleep full of pleasant dreams.

us.

restlessness.
4) Peaceful and serene experiences will be
enjoyed.

Therefore, on every morrow, are we
wreathing a flowery to bind us to the
earth
Life on earth would be a pain without
beauty around us.

the earth and make us live our life.

Life is a struggle where man often suffers
pain and loss of hope.
The expression refers to the sufferings and
hopelessness of man which he experiences
at various junctures of life.
Of the inhuman dearth of noble natures
Man is selfish and self centered by nature.
There are few noble people who have risen above
their petty differences and show magnanimity and
generosity.

abstracted by the deceit and selfishness
of our colleague.
We become sad and gloomy when we

refers to the trials and tribulations in this
journey of life.
Lots of faith and disappointment are the
result of our own making.
Beautiful things make life worthwhile as
they lift the veil of gloom, finding way for
optimism and hope.

The expression refers to all the
pessimistic and the negative thoughts
that abstract our way to happiness.
In spite of feelings of hopelessness and
gloom, we are able to find our happiness
in the beautiful objects of nature.
Some shape of beauty moves away the
ball from our dark spirits

Beauty, in any shape or form, helps in
driving away the sadness and despair from
our life.
Beauty gives joy and happiness to the
human heart and takes away sadness and
gloom.
Such the sun, the moon, trees old, and

We can appreciate simple and serene
beauty in the sun, the moon, the trees…
Beauties of nature have on elixir of life.

of sun, rain – they bless us with shade.
Sheep is a symbol of innocence and serene
beauty

(Jesus Christ was a shepherd – his sheep
his flowers).
And such are daffodils with the green

which provides respite in summers.

sprinkling of fair musk-rose blooms

it.
The poet feels that beauty is not limited to

It is like an endless fountain whose drink
gives strength and motivates us.
Pouring upto us from the heaven’s
