January 24: Feast of St. Francis of Sales
A heart that possesses the liberty of
children is not attached to consolations,
but bears afflictions with all the joy that
the flesh allows.
A free heart almost never loses its joy
because no deprivation can sadden him
whose heart is not attached to anything
The fruits of freedom are a great peace of
spirit, sweetness and affability towards
whatever is not sin, a character that is
gently inclined to acts of charity and to
other virtues.
The past is nothing, and you have to
say: now I begin loving God.
Do much for God and do not do anything
without love.
When one does not have wings, one
has to be resigned to the fact that he
cannot fly.
Walk sweetly on your good road: it is the
road of God.
Serve God as he wishes. One day
he will do everything that you want,
and even what you do not know
you want.
Love God, and you will adapt yourself to
live, say, do and give according to his
pleasure.
May God always be your heart, your spirit,
your rest.
What does it matter if we are crossing
deserts or fields? As long as God with
us, as long as we go to Paradise.
Ask God to comfort you, and if He does
not want to, do not think of it anymore.
We have to see and talk with God
in the midst of thunder and the whirlwind.
When you’re no longer worried, then
God will step in.
Be steadfast; let nothing disturb you. It
is still night, but the day draws near; it
will not be long in coming.
Take heart! Arise on tiptoe and stretch
out towards heaven.
It is enough that God is our God,
and that our heart is his dwelling place.
But no,…. let the wind blow;
do not think that the rustling of leaves is
the clanking of weapons.
Our God does not abandon us to attract us
to himself all the more ; he does not leave
us to possess us all the more; he does not
give us struggles if not to surrender and to
bless us.
We do not have arms long enough to
reach the cedars of Lebanon; let us
content ourselves then with the flowers
of the valley.
We belong entirely to God, unreservedly,
without any exception, with no other
claim but the honor of being his.
God wants our misery to be the throne
of his mercy, and our weakness, the
seat of his power.
Let us follow God with joy but without
intemperance , with firmness but
without arrogance, with fear but without
inquietude, with diligence but without
agitation.
