Forest
What is a rain forest?
A rain forest is a hot misty place. The
trees are tall and wide also with
bushy bushes. The leaves are large
to soak up the sunlight.
Location of Rain Forests
The rainforests are located all around the equator.
• Parts of North America, South America,
Africa, Asia and Austrailia have rainforests.
Emergent Layer
• The emergent layer
has trees that can
grow up to 200
feet tall.
• The emergent layer
has monkeys,
ants,and birds.
• The trees are
homes to many
animals that never
come down from
the canopy.
Canopy Layer
• The canopy
layer has
many birds,
ants and
monkeys.
• The canopy is
like an umbrella.
It keeps the
water from going
down to the
understory.
• The canopy layer
is always green
from the rain.
Macaws
Understory Layer
• The
understory
has very
little
sunlight, and
if the trees
get cut down
the
rainforest
turns into a
desert.
• The animals
in here are
mostly
reptiles.
Forest Floor
• The forest floor has many
plants for example,
rafflesia,it smells like
rotten meat. The slithering
snakes are down there.The
jaguars hunt down there
too. This is the darkest
part of the rainforest.
• When the forest floor get
flooded there are river
dolphins.

• People have
burnt down the
trees for
farming,
firewood,
paper, roads,
and homes.
• People also set
fire to the trees
to let cows graze
on the land.
People of the
Rain Forest
• Some people in
the rainforest put
on makeup to show
their religion.
• They only take the
food they need for
their family or
tribe.
• Some people make
their food with
spices they find in
the jungle.
