• A legendary place in Irish folklore, Tir Na Nog is a mythical Irish
land, not of this earth.
• It’s name translates to Land of the Ever Young.
• In Tir Na nOg the trees are constantly in bloom as if it is late
spring or summer. The leaves never fall or die.
• The flowers are in constant bloom as well, and you can smell
the scent of them miles away.
• Humans from Ireland who are able to visit Tir Na Nog will only
discover young, beautiful people living there.
• The residents are not humans, but fairies.
• Five days in the land of Tir Na Nog equal three years in
Ireland.
• Time did not stand still there, but moved extremely slowly.
• For entertainment the fairies played tin whistles or golden
harps.
• They also tell stories and myths of Ireland to the fairy children.
• In Tir Na nOg people don’t live forever, but they do age very,
very slowly.
• In most legends, it is a wonderful place to live, as long as you
don’t leave it.
• Once you leave this land and return to Ireland, you will
immediately become the age you were supposed to be; usually
a very old person
• In some darker Irish legends the people of Tir Na nOg
managed to maintain their youth by sucking the youth, fun and
vigor out of children in Ireland.
• However, that is not a common theme in the legend.
• The residents of Tir Na nOg were fairies but were not pixies or
changelings.
• They could only reside in Tir Na nOg. If they left for any length
of time, they would die a mortal death.
