Chinese Spring Festival, also called Lunar New
Year, has more than 4,000 years of history. It is
the grandest and the most important festival for
Chinese people. It is also the time for the whole
families to get together, which is similar with
Christmas Day to the westerners. People from
different regions and different ethnic groups
celebrate it in their unique ways.

Every family does a thorough house cleaning and purchases enough
food, including fish, meat, roasted nuts and seeds, all kinds of candies
and fruits, etc, for the festival period. Also, new clothes must be bought,
especially for children. Red scrolls with complementary poetic couplets,
one line on each side of the gate, are pasted at every gate. The
Chinese character 'Fu' is pasted on the center of the door and paper-cut
pictures adorn windows.

Lunar calendar in August 15, is one of the traditional Mid-Autumn festival.

The Dragon Boat Festival, the 5th day of the 5th month in the

The origin of Dragon Boat Festival
centers around a scholarly government


粽子的文化
A very popular dish during the Dragon
Boat festival is tzung tzu. This tasty dish
consists of rice dumplings with meat,
peanut, egg yolk, or other fillings
wrapped in bamboo leaves. The
tradition of tzung tzu is meant to remind
us of the village fishermen scattering
rice across the water of the Mi Low
river in order to appease the river
dragons so that they would not devour
Chu Yuan.


Carry the small spice bag around
with you, it not only drives away evil
spirits but also brings fortune and
happiness to those who wear it.

The small bags are hand-made by
local craftsmen.

They're made with red, yellow, green
and blue silk, fine satin or cotton.
Figures of animals, flowers and fruits
are often embroidered onto the bags
and inside are mixed Chinese herbal
medicines.
五.Realgar Wine 雌黄酒

It is a very popular practice to
drink this kind of Chinese
liquor seasoned with realgar at
the Dragon Boat Festival.

In one word, all of the activities
are to protect themselves from
evil and disease for the rest of
the year and honor the poet Qu
Yuan.
