Until recently, most people thought
that fire destroyed forests and
wildlife that lived in them.
Now, scientists are discovering that
certain types of fires are
beneficial to the forest ecosystem.

The author’s purpose in a nonfiction
work is usually to inform.

than one purpose in writing.
Those purposes are apparent in
different parts of a written work.
