Question 1: What’s the
difference between these
MONOCOTS:
– Have one seed leaf or
a cotyledons
– Smaller group
DICOTS:
– Have 2 seed leaves
(cotyledons)
– Make up the majority
of flowering plants
Question 2: What’s the function
of the root of a plant?
Anchor the plant in the ground
Absorb water and minerals from the soil
Transport materials up the stem
Some plants will store food in their
roots (example is carrots)
Question 3: What is pollination?
The transfer of pollen from the anther
to the pistil of a plant
How plants reproduce
The anther is the sticky stem that
comes out of the plant and the pistil is
the tube it travels down to fertilize the
plant.

difference between these
Annuals
– Live for only a
year or less.
– Sprout, grow,
reproduce, and die
in one single
growing season
Perennials
– Live for several
years, producing
flowers and seeds
periodically
(usually once each
year)

– Have large
