Don’t be trashy…
RECYCLE!
Is all our rubbish really rubbish?
If you think about it, much of what we throw
away could be used again.
It makes sense to reuse, reduce and recycle.
We recycle 35% of our household rubbish,
although we could recycle up to 80%.
We should remember the
rule of three R’s:
LookLllllL
Look at the following pictures
and say what we can reduce,
reuse and recycle.
USING ELECTRICITY
USING WATER
USING PAPER
USING PLASTIC
USING CANS AND GLASS
BOTTLES
USING FOOD
USING CLOTHES
IDEAS TO HELP
- Sort out your rubbish. Organic matter e.g. potato peelings, leftover
food, tea leaves etc. can be transferred straight to a compost heap in
the garden and used as a good fertilizer for the plants.
- Use recycled paper to help save trees.
- Take your old clothes to charity shops. Some are sold, others are
returned to textile mills for recycling.
- Try to avoid buying plastic. It’s hard to recycle. Use strong, long lasting
shopping bags instead.
- Turn off lights and appliances when you are not using them, use energysaving light bulbs.
- Catch the cold water that comes out of the faucet, tap, or shower while
you are waiting for the hot water. Use it to water plants or pour into your
toilet reservoir after flushing.
