Origin of “Week”
Day = 1 revolution
 Month = Cycle of the moon
 Year = 1 orbit around the sun
 Week = ???

 Exodus
20:8-11
Global Flood

Argument against – two separate stories
6:19-20 – “two of every sort”
 Genesis 7:2-3 – “seven each of every clean
animal, a male and his female; two each of
animals that are unclean”, “seven each of
birds of the air”
 Genesis

Genesis 8:20 – Reason for difference
Global Flood

Other argument against – Different lengths
of days for the flood
 Genesis
7:17 “Now the flood was on the earth
forty days.”
 Genesis 7:24 “And the waters prevailed on
the earth one hundred and fifty days.”
Genesis 7:11 – Noah 600yrs, 2mth, 17day
 Genesis 8:14 – Noah 601yrs, 2mth, 27day

Flood Timeline
Global Flood

Other argument – Not enough water
 Argument
based on the world of today
Genesis 1:9 – Single continent
 2 Peter 3:5-6 – The earth is
different now

Flood

“The cause of the Flood is described in tectonics, "All the waters of
the great deep were broken up" (Genesis 7:11). The Hebrew word -baqa, "burst or rent open" -- used other places to refer to the
geological phenomena of faulting. Psalms 104:8 says, "The
mountains rose up; the valleys sank down." Oceans deepened due
to the weight of water running off the land surfaces into them. With
the stupendous weight of new runoff water on the earth's mantle,
mountains were uplifted. And, with land masses still
unconsolidated, continents may have split off and drifted rather
rapidly on the earth's mantle to new locations. The area where the
Ark purportedly rests is definitely a tectonically active region.”

Evidence of Global Flood
Evidence of Global Flood
Sodom and Gomorrah

Argument – Asteroid
destroyed these cities
 Destroyed
386,000 sq
miles
 Israel – 8,522 sq miles
 Texas – 268,581 sq
miles
Sodom and Gomorrah
Zoar survived
 Genesis 19:15 – Lot leaves Sodom at
dawn
 Genesis 19:23 – Lot enters Zoar at sunrise
 Deuteronomy 34:3
 Zoar mentioned in writings up to the
Middle-ages

Sodom and Gomorrah

God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah
 Genesis

19:24-25
What evidence is there?
 Two
cities found that match level of
destruction described in Genesis 19:24
Why does it matter?

What are the ramifications?
 God

not all powerful
Truth is God is all powerful
 Jeremiah
 Job
32:37
42:2
 Matthew 19:26
Why does it matter?
If creation took billions of years – God Lied
 If no global flood – God Lied
 If God didn’t destroyed the Sodom and
Gomorrah – God Lied
 Why believe any of the Bible???

Why does it matter?





Why believe that Jesus is the Son of God?
Why believe that Jesus died for the sins of
mankind?
Why believe that God will forgive our sins
through the blood of Christ?
Why believe in the promise of heaven to the
faithful?
Why believe anything?
