Transcript June Assembly Powerpoint

We started the year studying The Romans. This meant a visit to Dorchester to see the
museum and the Roman Town House.
Then we studied the Anglo-Saxons and learned about how much they enjoyed
stories. We heard the story of Beowulf and Grendel. In Design Technology we made
our own models of Grendel.
We have learned lots of things in science.
We thought about which materials would be
the most absorbent.
We brought our bikes into school to investigate how important friction is.
We made boats to investigate which would be the best material for a
sail. We had to decide which things to keep the same to make our test
fair.
We learned about Rocks and Soils and what they can be used for. We walked to
Pymore to see how many uses for Rocks and Soils we could find.
We investigated what happened to our shadow over the
course of a day. The hardest part was waiting for a sunny
day so that we could see our shadows!
We investigated plants and leaves. Mrs Haylock chopped the leaves off of one of her
plants. It didn’t grow as well as the ones that had leaves! We found that cress didn’t
grow too well if it was too hot. And runner beans need just the right amount of
water to grow properly.
We have learned a lot of things
in RE this year. In December we
were lucky enough to be invited
to Chideock Church where the
ladies helped us make
Christingles and gave us a
delicious tea.
In the spring term we studied sustainable transport and
how sculpture improves the environment. We walked in
to town to look at some sculpture and to conduct a
traffic survey.
In December we walked down to the United Church to visit the Christmas Tree
Festival. The trees were great inspiration for some shape poems.
In May we walked down to town to visit the community pond. This was to gain
inspiration for our own school pond. On the way back we visited the museum and
had great fun dressing up!
In June it was the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. We learned about her life and her family and
then made models of Buckingham Palace.
When we returned to school after half term it was time to learn about the Olympics and
our class Olympic value – Respect.
One of the most exciting things we have done this year is dance. We danced to Tiger Feet
for the Jubilee and to the Pushbike Song for the Dance Festival.
All pictures are available to view on the
school website.
