Hello!
My name is Amy Wise! I am thrilled to
be your child’s teacher this year! This
is my 8th year teaching and my 4th
year here at PRE. I am married and
have a bulldog named Buddy.I am so
excited to see what this year has in
store for us!
Optimal learning is reached when all children are on task and few
disruptions are being made. We will have freedom levels in our
classroom this year with the expectation that students are
following the 8 Traits of a Leader in the classroom. Your child will
be completing a Leadership Log everyday with their level of the
day. This will be sent home in the homework folder. If students
receive a red or yellow they will write the number for the
leadership habit they were not following for the day. Please initial
this log every night. For whole and group management within
class there will also be paw points for cooperative groups and a
“paw bin” as a whole class incentive.

Writer’s workshop will consist of a minilesson, independent writing, and sharing.
While students are writing independently, I
will
be conferencing with
students and addressing
specific needs. Mentor Texts will be used
often during this time for modeling also.
Time: 9:50-11:20
Our Literacy block will consist of word study, whole group,
small group, and independent work time. During this time, I
will be working with students in small groups and one on
one. While I’m working with students, the rest of the class
will be making a Daily 5 choice. These choices consist of:
Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Work on
Writing, and Listen to Reading. Spelling inventories, word
sorts, and other activities will be used as part of Word
Study this year.
Time: 1-215
Our math program is Everyday Math. Your
child will learn many important concepts in
math this year. We will be working on
mastering addition, subtraction, and
multiplication facts. A family letter will come
home at the beginning of each unit. You can
help your child in math this year by helping
them with their homework and practicing their
math facts. Study guides for students to
complete will be sent home prior to the unit
tests. Home links will be sent home as
optional to complete.
The monthly 400 minute reading and 90
minute math fact log will be checked daily
and collected monthly to be included
toward each student’s work habits grade.
Additional homework connected to our
problem based learning units may be sent
home in the homework folder. Please
make sure to return notes, papers, and
lunch money in the folder. I will check
these folder daily.
Our school follows a four-day rotation. Our
rotation is PE, Tech, Art, and Music. The 5th day is
a “PANTHER /Day 5” rotation. Students either go
to 2 specials(while teachers are involved in
meetings) on day 5 days or no specials. Children
will need to wear tennis shoes while participating
in gym. Mondays are always gym for us. Also,
Fridays would be a good day to bring gym shoes
since it is a day 5, and sometimes students may
have gym.
Word study is a problem-solving approach where the student uses
many strategies to make sense of unknown words. It is based on a
progression of development and includes instruction in the
relationship of letters and sounds, patterns found in words, and the
origin of words. Word study instruction occurs in the context of
reading and writing workshop. The desired result is for students to
become proficient readers and writers, using their knowledge of
how words work to help them in all areas of communication in and
out of school. Since word study knowledge extends beyond
memorization of a weekly list, student learning will be assessed
continuously through authentic measures, such as the observation
and evaluation of the student’s daily writing and reading. Word
study is taught using an inquiry approach where students are guided
through explorations. These explorations will help students discover
spelling patterns, as well as generalizations that apply to many
words. There will be no spelling lists sent home or weekly tests.
We will take 2 field trips this year. We would love to
have you join us! In order to chaperone a field trip, you
must have a cleared background check on file. The
form to complete your background check can be found
on the Noblesville Schools website. This form must
also be completed to volunteer in our classroom.
