Formal Commands
To
command someone
you address as
usted to do
something, use formal
commands.
Unlike
informal
commands, formal
commands are the
same for both
affirmative and
negative commands.
To form them, put the verb
in the yo
form, drop
the o
and add
opposite endings.

for –er/–ir verbs
Examples:
comprar:
yo compro compre
comer:
yo como
coma
To
make a formal
command plural
(meaning “you all”) just
add an
to the end
of the Ud. command.

You
have already
learned that -car ,
-gar , and -zar
have
spelling changes before
an “e” is added to the
end.
-ger
and –guir also have
spelling changed when an
opposite ending is added.
