When the subject acts on itself
¿Cuándo es reflexivo?
 When the object and the subject are the same.
 I wash myself.

 object: myself
 Since the subject and the object are the same the
verb is reflexive

 I wash the car.
 subject: I
 verb: wash
 object: car
 Since the subject and object are different the
verb is not reflexive.
Verbos reflexivos
 In Spanish when a verb is reflexive, the
infinitive ends in “se”.

Como conjugar
 To conjugate reflexive verbs you need
to use the reflexive pronoun positioned
before the conjugated verb, while the
ending “se” is dropped.
 The verb is then conjugated normally.

ustedes se lavaron -- they wash (yourselves)
ellos se lavaron -- they wash (themselves)
Pronombres después del verbo
 When there already is a conjugated verb in the
sentence the pronoun goes attached to the end of
the verb.
 Yo quiero levantarme
 Tu quieres levantarte
 El quiere levantarse
 Nosotros queremos levantarnos
 Vosotros queréis levantaros
 Ellos quieren levantarse
bañarse, afeitarse, lavarse, ponerse,
 I am going to bathe myself: bañarse
 Voy a bañarme
 He is going to shave himself: afeitarse
 Va a afeitarse
 Veronica is going to wash her hair: lavarse
 Veronica va a lavarse el pelo.
 You are going to put on your shirt: ponerse
 Vas a ponerte tu camisa.
