Muhammad
• Thought by Muslims to be the last prophet of
God
• Wealthy feared his attacks on society would
upset the balance of power
• 622 CE - Muhammad travels from Mecca to
Medina to recruit followers
• 630 CE - He returns with 10,000 men and soon
converts most of Mecca to Islam
• Muhammad is seen as a religious and political
leader
